MIDDLETOWN, CT — A man was arrested on gun charges after running from police during a traffic stop Wednesday in Middletown, according to officials. Patrol officers stopped a vehicle that was driving the wrong way on Ferry Street, according to police. Police said a passenger, later identified as 20-year-old Shavar Bennett, ran from the vehicle. Officers ran after Bennett and ultimately apprehended him in the hallway area of the 50 Ferry Street apartment complex building, according to police. Bennett was found to be in the possession of a loaded .25 Auto Raven pistol with five rounds of ammunition, according to police. Police said the gun's serial number was intentionally mutilated. Bennett, of Middletown, was arrested and charged with carrying a pistol without a permit, illegal alteration of a firearm, possession of weapon in a motor vehicle, carrying a dangerous weapon, interfering with police, and criminal possession of a firearm. He was held in lieu of a $250,000 bond and appeared in court on Thursday.
