GREENWICH, CT — According to the Greenwich Public Schools COVID-19 tracker, there have been 59 new cases reported within the school district this week.
The tracker gets updated on Tuesday and Friday. On Tuesday, 29 cases were recorded, and another 30 on Friday. However, there are 40 active cases, affecting 37 students, two teachers and a non-teaching staff member. The cases are spread out across 11 schools. North Mianus School has the most cases with 15.
This week marks the largest increase since the week of Jan. 30 going into February, when 61 new COVID-19 cases were recorded.
School district spokesperson Jonathan Supranowitz said in an email to Patch that like other Fairfield County school districts, Greenwich is experiencing "small clusters of positive cases in a limited number of classes."
"Because of these multiple cases, we have temporarily cohorted those classes as much as possible, keeping them separate from other classes during lunch, recess, etc.," Supranowitz added. "We have encouraged families to reach out to their school nurse to request a take home test kit and keep their children home if they are not well, even if they are experiencing the mildest of symptoms."
