Press release from TriCounty Area Chamber of Commerce: November 19, 2020 PHILADELPHIA — American Heritage Credit Union ("American Heritage") donated over 5,300 new books to local hospitals, community centers, and special care facilities through its Books for Kids program. The program collected over $11,000 in donations throughout the summer and fall to purchase and distribute the books. In its eleventh year, American Heritage's Books for Kids program invited members to become "Book Buddies" by donating $3 to purchase a new book that would be donated to local hospitals and organizations in American Heritage's field of membership. When a member purchases a book donation, a label is included with the donor's name and is affixed inside the book. Local charities and organizations that received book donations include: Big Brothers/Big Sisters of Bucks County Bridesburg Boys and Girls Cub Catholic Community Services Christ's Home CORA Services Grand View Hospital KenCrest Lutheran Settlement House Mission Kids Nicetown Boys and Girls Club Pan American Academy Charter School Providence Center Ronald McDonald House Wissahickon Charter School Wayne Ave Boys and Girls Club YMCA American Heritage also made a special donation to the "Reach Out and Read" program at the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia, which promotes early literacy and school readiness in pediatrics by giving books to children and educating their parents on the importance of reading.
