Description

Press release from the City of Ames: March 16, 2022 The deadline to complete the City of Ames' Climate Action Plan "Six Big Moves" survey has been extended to 5 p.m. Sunday, March 20. The survey is on the City's website at https://confluence.mysocialpinpoint.com/ames-climate-action-plan/engagement/. Paper copies of the survey are also available at the Ames Public Library, 515 Douglas Ave. The survey is intended to generate feedback from Ames residents on actions they would be willing to take to reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) as part of the City's community climate action planning (CAP). Participants are asked to take the survey one time to share their thoughts. The survey asks a series of questions about carbon reduction behaviors at an individual level. There are also opportunities for open-ended comments. Providing an email address in the online survey is optional and will not be included in the information provided to the CAP Supplemental Input Committee and Ames City Council. Information gathered from the survey will be non-identifying and aggregated for presentation to the Supplemental Input Committee at 6 p.m. Monday, March 28, and the Ames City Council at the next CAP workshop at 6 p.m. Tuesday, April 5. The City of Ames began a climate action planning and goal-setting process several months ago with the goal of presenting a CAP to Ames City Council this fall. "Understanding our community's capacity and commitment to implementing carbon reduction steps is an integral part of developing an Ames CAP," said Assistant City Manager Deb Schildroth, who serves as the project leader. "We need everyone to participate to create the best possible plan for Ames." Sustainability Solutions Group (SSG) has been hired to facilitate the process. The Ames City Council serves as the project steering committee, and a volunteer, representative Supplemental Input Committee has been appointed to help provide feedback.
