PITTSBURGH, PA — A University of Pittsburgh professor's brother was killed in Ukraine Wednesday during an attack by Russian troops. James Hill, 68, was a Minnesota native who lived in the country intermittently for about two decades. James Hill was a social worker and psychologist, according to his sister, Katya Hill, an associate professor in Pitt's Department of Communication Science and Disorders. He is believed to be one of 10 people killed by Russian forces while they were standing in line for bread in Chernihiv, about two hours from the Ukrainian capital of Kyiv. "Such horrific attacks must stop,"a tweet from the U.S. Embassy in Kyiv stated. "We are considering all available options to ensure accountability for any atrocity crimes in Ukraine." Katya Hill said that her brother on Monday took his partner Iryna to a hospital in Chernihiv for multiple sclerosis treatment. "The last message I got from my brother said that the bombing was intensive, and the food was almost gone," Katya Hill told MPR News in Minneapolis.
