Trash Pickup Prices On The Rise For Mokena Residents

MOKENA, IL — Mokena residents will see an increase in waste disposal services beginning July 1 after the Village of Mokena Board of Trustees approved a new contract Monday with Homewood Disposal Services/NuWay. The monthly cost for waste pickup from July 1 to June 30, 2023, will go up from $20.46 to $21.16 for single family homes, according to Village documents. Those living in townhomes and condominiums will see an increase from $18.22 to $18.84, and apartment complexes will see its cost go up from $14.11 to $14.59. The new contract with Homewood Disposal Services/NuWay will be for five years, with an option for a two-year extension. Other details of the contract include: Senior citizens will retain the $0.86 per month discount, and will receive one free month of service.The cost of waste disposal will increase 3.4 percent each year over the length of the contract, with the exception of townhomes, which will see an approximately $1 per month increase in 2023 and the the same 3.4 percent increase for the remaining years.
