Here are the top three stories today in Jackson: A $700,000 chunk of Jackson's American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) funds could go toward violence prevention in the city. The People's Advocacy Institute recently proposed the creation of a new office: the Office of Public Safety/Violence Prevention. In this proposal, the money would fund the office for two years, as well as provide grants to community partners in prevention. (WLBT) A new TSA PreCheck enrollment initiative is taking place at the Jackson-Medgar Wiley Evers International Airport. Through Mar. 28, passengers can enroll for TSA PreCheck directly in the airport in five minutes or less. The initiative was designed by the Jackson Municipal Airport Authority to make enrollment more accessible and increase efficiencies in security. (Press Release Desk)Today, over 400 vehicles recovered by the Jackson Police Department will be sold at a public auction. The City of Jackson regularly auctions off vehicles at the city's impound lot at 4225 Michael Avalon Street. Anyone who wishes to attend must pay a $10 registration and entry fee; city employees are not allowed to bid.
