Press release from the City of Shakopee: March 17, 2022 The Shakopee City Council met Tuesday, March 15. Among the meeting highlights: City Council adopts updated non-resident Community Center fees The City Council adopted an ordinance updating daily Community Center admission for non-residents to $12 daily for adults and $10 daily for youth ages 1-17. The city added two precincts to accommodate for population growth, bringing Shakopee to 15 total polling locations. More information: Lori Hensen, City Clerk, 952-233-9318. City Council gives green light to Shakopee Skate Park improvements The City Council awarded a contract for $354,775 to Spohn Ranch Inc. for improvements to the Shakopee Skate Park. The existing wooden ramps at the skate park are deteriorating and becoming difficult to maintain. The final design combines feedback from the community and the Parks and Recreation Advisory Board. More information: Alyssa Olson, Senior Planner, 952-233-9345. Council approves final plat of Valley Crest Second Addition The City Council approved a final plat for Valley Crest Second Addition. Valley Crest is a 175-unit development by M/I Homes with three styles of single-family homes that was initially approved in summer 2021. The first phase is under construction, with this final plat consisting of 36 of the larger single-family lots. The Second Addition lots are south of Thrush Street and west of County Road 83. City Council recognizes Officer of the Year The City Council recognized Sergeant of Investigations Jamie Pearson as the Shakopee Police Department's 2021 Officer of the Year. Pearson was selected for her outstanding work ethic, leadership abilities and relationship with the community. Police Chief Jeff Tate says Pearson consistently demonstrates that she is confident in the team she supervises and empowers them to make the best decisions possible.
