CAMPBELL, CA — A four-alarm fire broke out at a three-story building in Campbell on Friday morning at the intersection of Knowles Drive and Dell Avenue. Smoke is visible throughout the Bay Area, though the 50,000-square foot building is vacant, according to the Santa Clara County Fire Department. The department announced the fire at 10:17 a.m. on Twitter. Firefighters were using "defensive modes" to contain the fire, meaning they are fighting the fire from the exterior, according to Justin Stockman, the department's public information officer. The fire is expected to burn for "some time," Stockman added Firefighters are responding to the scene and people are urged to avoid the area. Several areas in Campbell and Los Gatos were placed under an advisory due to the smoke and poor air quality. People sensitive to poor air quality should stay inside and close windows and doors.
