ROSWELL, GA — After a two-year hiatus due to Covid, the Alpharetta City Band, will bring back its Friends and Family Spring Concert, on Sunday, April 3, according to a news release.
The concert will take place from 3-4 p.m. at St. David's Episcopal Church, in Jefferd's Hall, 1015 Old Roswell Road, Roswell. The concert is free and open to the public.
Under the direction of Nicole Fallin, the band's Spring Program includes a wide variety of selections including Commando March, Around the Whiskey Jar, Barouque and Blue, Sheltering Sky, Lawrence of Arabia, and The Legend of Maracaibo.
The band will also perform Godzilla Eats Las Vegas, written by Eric Whitacre. The piece was commissioned by Whitacre's alma mater, the University of Nevada, and made its debut in November, 1996, according to the release.
"I thought it would be a blast to do something completely ridiculous," Whitacre said on his website. "The players are called upon to scream in terror, dress like Elviises (Elvi), and play in about thirty different styles from mambo to cheesy lounge music."`
The Alpharetta City Band is currently seeking instrumentalists in all sections. Band members should be able to play at the high school level. Questions and more information can be sent to [email protected] or through Facebook.
