Captain Jack Kennedy, commander of the multi-agency unit, told local media early Friday morning that the Tuscaloosa Police Department was called out to the 3500 block of McKenzie Avenue at about 11 p.m., where Tacara Moton was found dead after being shot. Kennedy then said Jonathan Lawayne Peebles, 38, was taken into custody by patrol officers and charged with manslaughter after investigators spoke with witnesses and collected additional evidence. Moton and Peebles were reportedly involved in a romantic relationship at the time of the shooting. Bond for Peebles had not been set as of the publication of this story.
