The Park Ranger 1 is a limited commission, unarmed, law enforcement officer, who is entrusted to perform a wide range of duties: they are stewards, advisors, hosts, managers, caretakers, and responsible for the daily operations and maintenance of the park. As a Park Ranger 1, you will have the ability to work outdoors in a beautiful and scenic environment, while being a part of a team that supports one of the most diverse State Park systems in the nation. Park Ranger 1's are responsible for protecting, preserving, and enhancing our state parks and natural resources, while ensuring the safety and welfare of park visitors. They communicate information to the public, improve and protect wetlands, and prepare and present interpretive and educational talks to the public. Ranger 1s are also key to protecting the park properties through limited commissioned police power. They issue non-traffic civil infraction notices such as Discover Pass violations, boat launch violations, and overnight parking violations The specific duties will have some variation by park location. • Performs duties of rule and regulation compliance for the park area • Educates the park visitors on rules and regulations that govern activities within the park area, including Discover Pass enforcement. • Provides routine maintenance and stewardship functions within the park area • Supervises and completes lower level maintenance projects for park area, where journey level skills are not required. • Completes, assigns and schedules routine grounds and facilities maintenance and upkeep duties. • Ensures priorities are adhered to and identified standards for cleanliness and sanitation are met for routine ground and facilities maintenance and upkeep. • Inspects lower level maintenance projects within the park area for compliance with identified standards. • Cleans restrooms and other park facilities. • Provides registration and customer service functions • Directs public contact providing general information, rules & regulations, services, emergency information and assistance, and area specific information. • Performs administrative duties • Accurately and timely completes new employee hiring paperwork. • Completes the park's Cash Receipt Transmittals (CRTs). • Supervises lower level staff • Supervises and provides oversight and instruction to staff, work groups, and volunteers. • Follows all Agency policies and procedures; statewide rules and regulations and the Collective Bargaining Agreement. This recruitment will be used to fill a variety of full-time Park Ranger 1 positions at multiple locations: Permanent, year round openings: • Deception Pass - located in Northwest Region, Skagit County. Housing is NOT available. • Fields Spring - located in Eastern Region, Asotin County. Housing is available. • Alta Lake - located in Eastern Region, Okanogan County. Housing is available. Permanent, seasonal openings (These positions return every year during the season dates): • Belfair - located in Northwest Region, Mason County. Season dates are 4/1 - 11/30. Housing is NOT available. • Twenty-Five Mile Creek - located in Eastern Region, Chelan County. Season dates are 4/1 - 9/30, yearly. Shared housing is available. • Manchester - located in Northwest Region, Kitsap County. Season dates are 4/1 - 9/30, yearly. Housing is NOT available. Non-Permanent openings (These are one time positions): • Fort Worden - located in Southwest Region, Jefferson County. Housing may be available. The expected duration of this position is 12 months. • Sun Lakes - located in Eastern Region, Grant County. Housing is available. The expected duration of this position is 12 months. • Lake Sammamish - located in Northwest Region, King County. Employees who have workstations located in King County receive a 5% premium pay in addition to the salary listed. RV hook up site is available. The expected duration of this position is 6 months. • Saltwater - located in Northwest Region, King County. Employees who have workstations located in King County receive a 5% premium pay in addition to the salary listed. RV hook up site is available. The expected duration of this position is 6 months. • Dash Point - located in Northwest Region, King County. Employees who have workstations located in King County receive a 5% premium pay in addition to the salary listed. RV hook up site is available. The expected duration of this position is 12 months. QUALIFICATIONS: REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: • High school diploma or GED. • United States citizen or legal to work in the U.S. • A valid driver's license (unrestricted, other than corrective lenses). • Must be 21 years old. • Two (2) years of college (Military experience, Commissioned law enforcement experience, Natural Resource, or Recreation field experience will substitute year for year for education). **Military experience or in a Natural Resource or Recreation field will substitute year for year for education. DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS: • Bilingual - the ability to converse fluently in both English and Spanish. • Experience performing minor construction and repair work. • Grounds maintenance experience such as cutting grass, weeding flower beds, pruning, raking leaves, picking up litter, etc. • Supervisory experience.
