Palatine Police Issue Over 140 Citations During Thanksgiving Week

PALATINE, IL — Palatine police arrested one person and issued more than 140 citations during the recent Thanksgiving traffic safety enforcement campaign, which took place from Nov. 20 through Monday. During this period, law enforcement agencies throughout the state participated in this effort to decrease highway fatalities by getting impaired drivers off the roads, and enforcing seatbelt laws, police said. According to a news release from the Palatine Police Department, police arrested one person accused of impaired driving, and issued 144 seat belt citations. In addition, Palatine police also took the following enforcement actions, according to the news release: 2 Warrant Arrests5 Suspended/Revoked Driver's License Arrests11 Uninsured Motorist Citations106 Speeding Citations1 Reckless Driving Arrest4 Drug Arrests During the mobilization, police departments emphasized enforcement during late-night hours, as statistics show this is when the highest number of unbuckled and impaired driving fatalities happen, according to the news release. Police added that Federal traffic safety funds finance the Thanksgiving enforcement effort, and the Illinois Department of Transportation administers those funds as part of the statewide Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over and Click It or Ticket campaigns.
