PALO ALTO, CA – A 56-year-old Stockton man is in custody after turning himself into police on Tuesday after police said he shot his ex-girlfriend at her birthday party in East Palo Alto a day earlier.
Joey Harris turned himself into Stockton Police after witnesses told police that Harris shot and killed Cynthia Mose, police officials said in a news release. Mose, 56, Stockton, was found by police with gunshot wounds at 11:11 p.m. on Monday when she was reported dead at the scene in 1700 block W. Bayshore Road after being alerted to the address by a ShotSpotter activation, police said.
Police said in the news release that Mose and Harris had been involved in a dating relationship and lived together for two years. They had traveled to East Palo Alto from Stockton on Monday for Mose's birthday party and memorial service for her brother, who died a year earlier. While outside the party, police said that Harris shot Mose and then fled in a vehicle.
On Tuesday, Harris turned himself in and was transported to the San Mateo County Jail, where he was charged with murder and booked.
