PALATINE, IL — President Trump's projected loss in Illinois on Tuesday contrasted with his performance in 2016, as his share of the vote rose from 37 percent against Hilary Clinton four years ago to 42.3 percent against Joseph Biden.
Shortly after polls closed on Tuesday, the announcement was made that Biden had taken the win here, which has leaned left since electing Bill Clinton in 1992. Last election, Hillary Clinton won Illinois with 55.8 percent of the vote total compared to Trump's 37 percent.

According to the Cook County Clerk's Office's Suburban Cook County Election Results, Trump earned 317,970 votes in 2016 compared to 299,805 votes in 2020 (1,560 of 1,599 precincts reported as of Wednesday morning).
Tuesday's vote climaxed a heated battle for control of the White House, unfolding during a pandemic that killed nearly a quarter of a million Americans before Election Day.
