PITTSBURGH, PA — The Allegheny County Health Department on Friday reported 27 new coronavirus deaths. The county death toll now stands at 770, up from 743 on Thursday. The county reported 827 confirmed and probable new coronavirus cases. There have been 44,684 cases since the outbreak began in March, up from 43,857 on Thursday. The 741 confirmed cases came from 2,625 new tests - a positivity rate of 28 percent. For comparison purposes, the latest positivity rate for tests across Pennsylvania is 16 percent, state officials said. There have been 2,768 hospitalizations during the outbreak, up from 2709 on Thursday. With 15,545 cases in Westmoreland County, 7,172 in Butler County, 7,153 in Washington County and 6,894 in Beaver County, that brings the total number of cases to 81,448 when Allegheny County numbers are included. That's up from 79,652 on Thursday. According to the state Department of Health, there have been 1,547 deaths in the region from the virus: Seven hundred and seventy in Allegheny County, 326 in Westmoreland County, 206 in Beaver County, 139 in Butler County and 106 in Washington County. That's up from 1,502 on Thursday. Because of the growing number of coronavirus cases and deaths across Pennsylvania, new mitigation measures are in effect until Jan. 4. The state has restricted indoor dining and closed gyms, movie theaters and bowling alleys, as well as limiting gatherings and suspending youth sports.
