Allegheny Co. Reports 56 Percent Coronavirus Test Positivity Rate

PITTSBURGH, PA — The Allegheny County Health Department on Monday reported 1,412 confirmed and probable new coronavirus cases over the weekend. There have been 47,111 cases since the outbreak began in March, up from 45,699 reported on Saturday. There were three new coronavirus deaths. The county death toll now stands at 780, up from 777 on Saturday. The 1,155 confirmed cases came from 2,036 new tests - a positivity rate of 56 percent. For comparison purposes, the latest positivity rate for tests across Pennsylvania is 16 percent, state officials said. The youngest person to test positive for the virus was two weeks old. There have been 2,911 hospitalizations during the outbreak, up from 2783 on Saturday. With 16,203 cases in Westmoreland County, 7,577 in Butler County, 7,471 in Washington County and 7,206 in Beaver County, that brings the total number of cases to 85,568 when Allegheny County numbers are included. That's up from 83,142 on Saturday. According to the state Department of Health, there have been 1,596 deaths in the region from the virus: Seven hundred and eighty in Allegheny County, 345 in Westmoreland County, 215 in Beaver County, 146 in Butler County and 110 in Washington County. That's up from 1,572 on Saturday. Because of the growing number of coronavirus cases and deaths across Pennsylvania, new mitigation measures are in effect until Jan. 4. The state has restricted indoor dining and closed gyms, movie theaters and bowling alleys, as well as limiting gatherings and suspending youth sports.
