Allegheny Co. Again Reports Double-Digit New Coronavirus Deaths

PITTSBURGH, PA — The Allegheny County Health Department on Tuesday reported 797 confirmed and probable new coronavirus cases. There have been 47,908 cases since the outbreak began in March, up from 47,111 on Monday. There were 10 new coronavirus deaths. The county death toll now stands at 790, up from 780 on Monday. The 407 confirmed cases came from 1,728 new tests - a positivity rate of 23 percent. For comparison purposes, the latest positivity rate for tests across Pennsylvania is 15.8 percent, state officials said. There have been 2,956 hospitalizations during the outbreak, up from 2,911 on Monday. With 16,777 cases in Westmoreland County, 7,853 in Butler County, 7,681 in Washington County and 7,388 in Beaver County, that brings the total number of cases to 87,607 when Allegheny County numbers are included. That's up from 85,568 on Monday. According to the state Department of Health, there have been 1,616 deaths in the region from the virus: Seven hundred and ninety in Allegheny County, 349 in Westmoreland County, 218 in Beaver County, 147 in Butler County and 112 in Washington County. That's up from 1,596 on Monday. Because of the growing number of coronavirus cases and deaths across Pennsylvania, new mitigation measures are in effect until Jan. 4. The state has restricted indoor dining and closed gyms, movie theaters and bowling alleys, as well as limiting gatherings and suspending youth sports.
