Plane's Engine Problems Caused Emergency Landing In Palatine

PALATINE, IL — The pilot aboard a small, single engine plane that landed on Northwest Highway in the 500 block of N. Quentin Road Thursday had engine problems. According to a Journal & Topics report, Chicago Executive Airport Director Jamie Abbott, the pilot and owner of the plane took off from the airport in Wheeling before radioing that he was experiencing engine trouble. The news report added that Abbott asked to return to the airport, but realized there was trouble and had to react quickly. According to Journal & Topics, Abbott said they will wait for the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) to determine the cause of Thursday's plane issue. Abbott wasn't hurt in the emergency landing, which led to damage in the plane's right wing. A news release from the Palatine Police Department said police were called to the 500 block of North Quentin Road at 6:11 p.m. Thursday after the plane landed in the road, and Southbound Quentin Road was closed for hours between Northwest Highway and Colfax while police investigated.
