Four Pittsburgh Firefighters Injured In Major Blaze

PITTSBURGH, PA — A four-alarm fire effecting three houses the city's South Side slopes neighborhood Sunday evening left four firefighters inured. The blaze broke out on Mt. Oliver Street around at 8 p.m. According to the Pittsburgh Bureau of Fire, firefighters found heavy flames when they arrived at the scene. There were two separate collapses at the rear of the building and a mayday was called at one point until all firefighters were safely accounted for. One suffered a minor burn injury, while another received a laceration. Two others sustained shoulder injuries. All four were taken to a local hospital for treatment. All of the residents of the three affected homes got out safely. They will be assisted by the Red Cross in finding temporary accommodations. The fire was contained mainly to the center building, but the two adjoining buildings received water and smoke damage. The fire was declared under control at 10:22 p.m. The Fire Investigation Unit is investigating the fire's cause and origin.
