KENDALL COUNTY, IL — A single-day record number of coronavirus cases was reported by the Kendall County Health Department on Friday. According to county data, there were 231 new cases, although the death toll remained at 29. As of Saturday, there were 3,597 coronavirus cases, with 2,304 in recovery, health officials said. RaeAnn VanGundy, health department executive director, told the Kendall County Board on Wednesday that there is "substantial" community spread of the virus and that it is continuing to get worse. She also said this is overwhelming local health officials who are involved in contact tracing. They are struggling to notify residents and their possible contacts within 24 hours. "Our cases are outnumbering our staff right now," VanGundy said. The positivity rate in Kendall County is also at an all-time high, according to the Illinois Department of Public Health website. Coronavirus positivity was at 14 percent as of Friday, and there were 323 new cases per 100,000 people. The target for this metric is 50 or fewer. The county is also at a warning level for hospital visits by those with COVID-19-like symptoms, according to IDPH data.
