KENDALL COUNTY, IL — Kendall County has set a new single-day record for number of coronavirus cases reported on Thursday. According to county data, there were 269 new cases, although the death toll remained at 29. As of Thursday, there are 4,164 coronavirus cases, with 2,399 in recovery, health officials said. The previous record for new COVID-19 cases in the county was 231, reported by the Kendall County Health Department on Nov. 6. RaeAnn VanGundy, health department executive director, told the Kendall County Board on Nov. 4 that there is "substantial" community spread of the virus and that it is continuing to get worse. She also said this is overwhelming local health officials who are involved in contact tracing. They are struggling to notify residents and their possible contacts within 24 hours. "Our cases are outnumbering our staff right now," VanGundy said. The positivity rate in Kendall County is also at an all-time high, according to the Illinois Department of Public Health website. Coronavirus positivity is at 19.2 percent as of Friday, up from 14 percent last week. There are 604 new cases per 100,000 people. The target for this metric is 50 or fewer.
