OSWEGO, IL — The Oswego School District 308 Board of Education unanimously decided to honorably dismiss educational support staff members during its Sept. 14 meeting. According to board documents, the 16 part-time employees — who worked as recess monitors at elementary schools — are being dismissed in order to decrease the number of educational support personnel employed by the school district due to economic necessity. They will not be re-hired for the duration of the 2020-2021 school year. This will be effective as of 30 from the date of receipt or attempted delivery of the notice. Chief Financial Officer Christy Tyler said the employees were paid minimum wage or more depending upon their years of service in the district. They represented 11 of the district's elementary schools: Homestead Elementary SchoolLong Beach Elementary SchoolThe Wheatlands Elementary SchoolLong Beach Elementary SchoolChurchill Elementary SchoolBoulder Hill Elementary SchoolLakewood Creek Elementary SchoolOld Post Elementary SchoolFox Chase Elementary SchoolSouthbury Elementary SchoolWolf's Crossing Elementary SchoolGrande Park Elementary School.Board President Lauri Doyle said she wanted to be able to rehire them and hopes "we will need these positions again, sooner rather than later."
