The Japanese practice of Shinrin-Yoku, Forest Bathing, is not a hike or an activity. There is no intended destination or goal to achieve. It's not about doing, it's about being. It's an opportunity to disconnect from the outside world and delve into nature. We will be guided to immerse ourselves in the forest bathing experience by moving slowly, using mindfulness techniques, and intentionally using our 5 senses. About the Facilitator Gretchen Schutte began her wellness and yoga journey in 2006 when she started practicing yoga as a method of stress relief. As her practice grew, she knew she wanted to share the gift of yoga with others. Gretchen's education started with a Yoga training and grew to include Meditation. At the root of the experiences she leads are tools that help you navigate your day with more ease. Her intention is for you to take the mindfulness and presence you learn in nature back into your life to navigate your day with a sense of calm. Questions Please email if you have any questions or concerns about your participation: [email protected] “People usually consider walking on water or in thin air a miracle. But I think the real miracle is not to walk either on water or in thin air, but to walk on earth. Every day we are engaged in a miracle which we don’t even recognize: a blue sky, white clouds, green leaves, the black, curious eyes of a child – our own two eyes. All is a miracle.” – Thich Nhat Hanh “In the primordial forests of the first living creatures there was no speech, no spoken symbols systematically arranged into significant expression. But there was communication. Before linguistics, before the literal link of language, there was listening ... Listening ... perhaps ... is just a mind aware …" - unknown “The earth does not belong to man, man belongs to the earth. All things are connected like the blood that unites us all. Man did not weave the web of life, he is merely a strand in it. Whatever he does to the web, he does to himself.” - Chief Seattle This program is presented in partnership with SheCAN! and Rowan Tree. The Sage Sisters is the official Northern Virginia chapter of SheCAN!, an organization based in Buffalo, NY whose mission to help women become the best versions of themselves.
