Press release from the CSUSB Palm Desert Campus: October 2 2020 PALM DESERT, Calif. – An academic poster created by CSUSB Palm Desert Campus nursing faculty member Diane Vines has been honored by the American Psychiatric Nurses Association (APNA). After an in-depth review by Vines' psychiatric-mental health nursing peers, Vines' poster, entitled "Street Medicine in the Coachella Valley," was awarded 1st place in the Education category for the APNA 34th Annual Conference. Two nursing students who serve as student assistants with the Street Medicine program, Michelle Rodriguez and Genevieve Marruffo, helped Vines create the poster, which will be marked with a ribbon in the APNA Annual Conference Virtual Poster Hall. Vines is the coordinator of the Street Medicine program at the CSUSB Palm Desert Campus, which provides healthcare services to the homeless and unsheltered populations in the Coachella Valley. The Street Medicine program is a collaborative partnership between the CSUSB Department of Nursing; the University of California, Riverside School of Medicine; Desert Regional Medical Center; Well in the Desert; and the Coachella Valley Volunteers in Medicine. "We are so pleased about the award," said Vines, "because it will draw attention to involving nursing students in street medicine efforts and hopefully convince other nursing programs to replicate our efforts." The CSUSB Palm Desert Campus offers bachelor's and master's degrees, a doctorate in educational leadership, and teaching credentials and certificates.
