COACHELLA VALLEY, CA — The Coachella Valley's representative on the Riverside County Board of Supervisors has been tapped to lead the Latino Caucus of California Counties. On Friday, Supervisor V. Manuel Perez was elected to a two-year term as president of the LCCC, which is a coalition of Latino county supervisors across California. Perez is Riverside County's first Latino county supervisor. "LCCC encourages the engagement and involvement of Latino and Latina leaders in developing solutions to statewide issues and concerns, providing value to the California State Association of Counties, the Latino community and all Californians," according to a news release from the supervisor. LCCC's outgoing president, Supervisor Alfredo Pedroza from Napa County, said, "It was an honor to serve as president of the Latino Caucus of California Counties for the past two years and I am confident that President-Elect Perez and the incoming executive board will take our Caucus to the next level and continue the work to improve our communities across the state." Perez thanked Pedroza for his two years of leadership as LCCC president and said, "The Latino Caucus of California Counties is a voice on many key issues important to the Latino community, from the 2020 Census, policies affecting immigrant communities such as DACA and public charge, and our current effort for California to have Latino representation in the U.S. Senate, which is long overdue. I look forward to working on all these priority areas, among them, advancing broadband infrastructure to improve education access and close the digital divide. We will work on policy that tackles income inequality, advances gender equity and support women and the LGBTQ community for positions in higher office. This position includes being on the CSAC kitchen cabinet, in which we will have a voice working with the state on issues to suppress the pandemic and ensure equity in administering the vaccine." LCCC is an affiliate of the California State Association of Counties. As president of LCCC, Perez will be part of CSAC's kitchen cabinet that works with the state and county governments on the pandemic response, according to the news release. The new leadership post comes as Perez concludes 2020 serving as chair of the Riverside County Board of Supervisors and prepares to pass the gavel at the Board's first meeting in 2021. Supervisor Debra Lucero of Butte County will serve as LCCC's vice-president. She is the first Latina elected county supervisor in Butte. "I look forward to working with V. Manuel Perez and our incredible Latino Caucus members on important issues facing California residents," Lucero said. The other officers elected Friday included secretary/parliamentarian - Supervisor James Gore of Sonoma County; and treasurer - Supervisor Chris Lopez of Monterey County.
