DUI Checkpoint Scheduled In Palm Springs

PALM SPRINGS, CA — Police officers will be screening vehicles looking for intoxicated drivers Friday night in Palm Springs. A DUI checkpoint will be operated at an undisclosed location in the city between 6 p.m. Friday and 1 a.m. Saturday, according to the Palm Springs Police Department. "The safety of our community is and always will be our mission," police Sgt. Arnold Galvan said. "We are still out there in the middle of a pandemic because driving under the influence is still dangerous and puts a further strain on critical resources." Checkpoint locations are chosen based on a history of DUI crashes and arrests, police said. In addition to alcohol, marijuana and some prescription medications can also lead to a DUI. Those arrested for driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol can spend time in jail and pay up to $13,500, including fines, fees, classes, license suspensions and other expenses. Funding for the checkpoint is provided by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
