Music performance by Kyle Carey with a special presentation on the history of Gaelic and Celtic music in Appalachia A special two evening appearance at Ambler and Blue Bell Libraries - Tuesday, April 19 (Blue Bell) and Wednesday, April 20 (Ambler) Kyle Carey is a renowned singer and songwriter who combines American and Celtic folk traditions to make her own unique brand of 'Gaelic Americana' music. As a young woman, Kyle traveled to Cape Breton on a Fulbright Fellowship to learn Scottish Gaelic. Afterwards, she spent a year on the Isle of Skye in Scotland—honing her skills in the Gaelic language and studying traditional singing techniques. To date she has released three albums—Monongah, North Star, and The Art of Forgetting. All critically acclaimed, and all a direct and compelling expression of her distinctive ‘Gaelic Americana’ sound. Having learned Scottish Gaelic to the point of fluency–Kyle’s music is an expression and exploration of Appalachia’s Celtic roots. Many critics have likened her to being a mix of Loreena McKennitt and Alison Krauss. Kyle will host two musical performances for Wissahickon Valley Public Library Tuesday, April 19 at the Main Library in Blue Bell (link to register)Wednesday, April 20 at the Ambler Branch in Ambler (this registration)
