Discover traditions of preservation through bacterial collaboration using seasonal root vegetables from Hudson Valley growers
Fermentation is a testament to the deep intelligence and sustainability of age-old processes, the wonders of collaboration with nature, and the eagerness of microorganisms to thrive. Discover traditions of preservation through bacterial collaboration in this course with Tara of Drifter Ferments, in which she will cover basic concepts in vegetable fermentation using seasonal root vegetables from local, organic growers.
Students will learn about the cost effective and simple tools involved in and the versatility of the fermentation process. They will also taste the unique flavors of fermentation that Tara works with in the shop. Each student will return home with their own fermentation project to tend to and ultimately consume. You will be fully equipped to tackle any vegetable fermentation project after this class.
This is part of our monthly fermentation class series which will take place the last Thursday of each month during March through October of 2022). Classes are limited to 6 students and will be at the Drifter Ferments shop. We aim to keep classes small, so students can receive individualized attention for all their fermentation needs.
Tara is planning larger (25 students) low cost introductory fermentation classes in collaboration with local farms this year. Stay tuned if you are interested in her upcoming educational opportunities at www.drifterferments.com
