Boat Involved In Deadly Boston Harbor Crash Destroyed In Fire

COHASSET — The boat involved in a deadly crash Boston Harbor crash last summer was destroyed in an accidental fire in Cohasset Wednesday morning, police said. The Suffolk District Attorney's Office confirmed the boat that caught fire was the same boat involved in the crash that left 27-year-old Jeanica Julce dead. An investigation showed the speedboat "Make it Go Away," caught fire by accident and resulted from combustible materials and vapors that were unintentionally ignited, the district attorney's office said. Firefighters arrived at the boat fire in the MassDOT lot on Crocker Lane in Cohasset Wednesday morning, working to stop the fire before deeming the boat a total loss, the Cohasset Police Department confirmed. Employees at the lot tried to use fire extinguishers to put out the flames but were unsuccessful, police said. A spokesperson from the Department of Fire Services said there was no evidence of criminal conduct and it was not a deliberate act. On July 17, Ryan Denver, 38, of Boston was driving the speedboat "Make it Go Away," in Boston Harbor overnight and into the early hours before police say he crashed into a navigational buoy, throwing him and seven passengers on the boat into the water. All passengers aboard the boat but Julce were pulled to safety and taken to local hospitals. Julce's body was recovered seven hours later and she was pronounced dead at the scene. Denver was indicted in October 2021 on charges of involuntary manslaughter, three counts of assault and battery with a dangerous weapon causing serious bodily injury, and two counts of assault and battery with a dangerous weapon in the wake of Julce's death.
