STRATFORD, CT — Six people, including four children, were displaced from their home after a fire Wednesday night in Stratford, according to officials. Crews responded to the 100 block of McGrath Court around 7:45 p.m. on the report of a structure fire. "Under the command of Assistant Chief Reitmeyer, Engines 1, 3, Tac5 and Truck 1 responded with a total of 13 firefighters," Assistant Chief/Fire Marshal Robert Daniel wrote in a news release. "On arrival, smoke was visible coming from the duplex structure. Engine 1 Lt. and crew entered and found a dryer fire located on the second floor. The fire was contained to the area of origin; the dryer and extinguished." Two adults and four children were home at the time of the fire and will temporally be displaced, according to Daniel. There were no injuries. "The residents were alerted to the fire by smoke detectors the Stratford Fire Department had installed a month prior through a partnership with the American Red Cross," Daniel said. "The Stratford Fire Department reminds all residents of the importance of smoke alarms." Any resident in need of smoke alarms can contact the Fire Marshal's office at 203-385-4073. The origin and cause of the fire was investigated by the Stratford Fire Marshal's office, according to Daniel.
