MCLEAN, VA — Early voting has started for the annual McLean Community Center governing board election. There are 12 candidates running for seats in 2022. The candidates include nine adults and three teens running for three adult positions and two youth positions. Adults serve three-year terms on the board, while youth candidates serve one-year terms. The two youth candidates include one from the McLean High School boundaries and one from Langley High School boundaries. The 11-member governing board sets policies and budget for the McLean Community Center as well as provides oversight for programs and facilities. Members must live in the McLean Community Center boundaries (Small District 1A-Dranesville). Candidates for the adult seats include Anna Bartosiewicz, Debra Butler, Ari Ghasemian, Katie Gorka, Kristina Groennings, Lauren S. Kahn, James Lawless, Maire Shine and Ishah "Laurah Guillen" Wright. The youth candidate for the Langley High School boundary is Charlotte Loving, and the youth candidates for the McLean High School boundary are Max Blacksten and Sarah Tran. See full candidate statements on the McLean Community Center website. Early voting for the governing board election started Wednesday. Voting is open to residents in Small District 1A-Dranesville. Adults can vote for adult candidates, while teens aged 15 to 17 as of May 21 can vote for youth candidates. Residents may request ballots for their household using an online form, calling 703-744-9348 or emailing [email protected]. In-person voting is also available at the McLean Community Center. The deadline for early voting in the election will be 5 p.m. on May 18. The last chance to vote will be in person at McLean Day on May 21 from 10:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Results will be announced in the days after the election, and new members will be sworn in on June 8.
