PHILADELPHIA — A Philadelphia Police officer has been charged with perjury, giving false statements, and official oppression after authorities said he lied about a 2021 firearm arrest.
Philadelphia Police said Officer Daniel Levitt was arrested Thrusday morning on a warrant for giving false statements and testimony regarding the arrest of anindividual for Violations of the Uniform Firearms Act
In 2021, the Philadelphia Police Department's Internal Affairs Investigative Support Services conducted an audit of city-wide arrests of individuals for Violations of the Uniform Firearms Act.
An investigation stemming from this audit determined that Levitt violated departmental policy and committed criminal acts in reference to a firearm violation arrest he conducted on April 28, 2021, police said.
Levitt is a 12-year veteran of the Philadelphia Police Department, and was last assigned to the 39th District.
Philadelphia Police Commissioner Danielle Outlaw has suspended Daniel Levitt for 30 days with the intent to dismiss at the end of the 30 days.
