Early Morning North Portland 2nd Alarm Fire Sends One To Hospital

PORTLAND, OR — A woman was safely rescued from the roof a burning home in North Portland early Friday morning, fire officials said. She was taken to Legacy Emanuel Medical Center where she was treated for minor injuries. Neighbors and residents started calling 911 just before 1:30 a.m. They reported that flames could be seen coming out of a three-level home on the 2400 block of North Flint Avenue. Police were first to arrive at the home. They quickly realized that they would not be able to reach the woman who had gone to the roof. They told her that firefighters would be there in moments and they would get her down. A ladder truck then arrived and a fire crew was able to get up to the woman. By this point, the smoke conditions were so bad that they could only see her legs. They got her down to an ambulance that sped her to Emanuel where she was treated for minor injuries, according to officials. Meanwhile, they say that the fire conditions were too dangerous to do a search inside the building so they withdrew until the fire could be brought under control. Residents who had fled to the street assured the firefighters that everyone had made it out. About 45 minutes later, when firefighters were able to get back in, they were able to confirm that everyone had escaped the home. The building was severely damaged. Investigators returned there just after 7 a.m. to determine what had caused the fire.
