Description

GILROY, CA — Stop signs are going up on Church Street at the intersections of 4th and 5th streets in Gilroy in the next few weeks, along with new high visibility crosswalks. City officials, including City Administrator Jimmy Forbis and Public Works Director Daryl Jordan held a community meeting on Wednesday to discuss traffic safety along Church Street. The intersection of Church and 4th Streets will have all-way stop signs, adding onto the current configuration that only has stop signs on the east and westbound lanes of 4th Street. New crosswalks will be installed on Church Streets, and intersections between 2nd and 5th streets will also see new lane striping for better visibility. The changes were made in addition to 2021 adjustments that saw red curbs painted at key intersections and signs noting that "cross traffic does not stop." The city will continue to monitor the Church Street corridor for future improvements, officials said in a news release.
