5 Fine Arts Students At East Aurora D131 Place At Art Competition

Press release from East Aurora School District 131: March 15, 2022 The IHSA Upstate 8 Art Competition and Solo and Ensemble Contests took place earlier this year, with District 131 students representing the community across the board. The Upstate 8 Conference is held among 10 high schools in northeastern Illinois, ranging across DuPage, Kane, and Cook County. This year, the Virtual Art Exhibition within the IHSA sanctioned contest saw five East Aurora High School students place in the top spots. Categories included 2-D forms such as drawing, painting, and photography along with multimedia and printmaking. 3-D forms were also present, like ceramic art, jewelry, and sculpture. The majority of students competed in band instruments, while one vocal performance from an East High choir also competed. Thirty-four students achieved a Division 1 rating, while two received a Division 2 distinction. This competition is typically held in various locations throughout the state, with the East High group traveling to Reavis High school to perform and compete.
