Phoenixville SD, Teachers Association Agree On 3-Year Contract

PHOENIXVILLE, PA — Phoenixville Area School District and its teachers association have agreed on terms of a new three-year contract that is expected to be approved Monday night. The Phoenixville Area School District (PASD) and the Phoenixville Area Education Association (PAEA) announced Wednesday that they have come to a tentative three-year contract. The district's current contract with the PASD teachers association is set to expire June 30, 2021, when the new three-year contract, if approved, will go into effect. Details of the contract were not yet available. Pending ratification by the PAEA membershipand approval by the full Board of School Directors on Monday, both parties said they were pleased to have come to a tentative agreement earlier this week. "I would like to thank Mr. Mike Donnelly, Mr. Erik Rutchauskas and Mrs. Tammy Kurtz fortheir hard work and willingness to bargain during these challenging times," said Jeesely Soto,Vice President of and lead negotiator for the Phoenixville Area School Board. "Throughout our discussions, I felt both the Association and the District, built on the foundation of the last contract, made thoughtful recommendations and worked towards compromise. With this contract complete, the work of the District will continue to move forward as all of our attention can now be focused on the reason we are all in education — the children," Soto added. Tammy Kurtz, PAEA president, stated, "We are grateful to the board, administration and thePAEA negotiations team for their willingness to participate in early bird negotiations and reach atentative agreement in just three short weeks. The hard work and cooperation among everyoneinvolved allows us all to keep our focus centered on educating the students of Phoenixvilleduring this especially challenging time." PASD School Board President Blake Emmanuel said, "Thank you to our teachers, administration, and Board negotiation team, who worked hard to make this happen. It's an honor to work with these incredible people, and I appreciate the effort and time this took. Looking forward to continuing to collaborate with this wonderful group." The PAEA is scheduling a vote on the contract for its membership on Monday.
