SCHUYLKILL TOWNSHIP, PA — An ordinance that would require township residents to get a permit before removing any tree on their property may be approved on Dec. 2 in Schuylkill Township. Schuylkill Township will hold a virtual hearing and then may vote on an amended version of its "Tree Ordinance" in a virtual meeting on Dec. 2 at 7:30 p.m. A virtual meeting has been designated as a continued public hearing on Ordinance No. 2020-05, also called the "Tree Ordinance." The township's notification said the Schuylkill Township Board of Supervisors may vote to approved the ordinance in the meeting, according to Madeline Harbison, Township Secretary. The ordinance states the township's intentions to protect and conserve its natural resources, including trees as groundcover in the township. The ordinance states that "unless specifically exempted by this Section, no tree shall be cut down or otherwise removed from any land within the Township unless a tree removal permit has been secured in accordance with the provisions of §370-225.E.(1) Tree Removal Permits." The full text of the township's tree ordinance can be read here. Virtual meeting access information will be published on www.schuylkilltwp.org prior to the hearing. A complete copy of the proposed ordinance is available for public inspection on the Schuylkill Township website www.schuylkilltwp.org or may be accessed here.
