CHESTER SPRINGS, PA — A bus driver faces multiple criminal charges in the death of a Chester County woman and University of Pittsburgh student who was struck and killed in January. Shavonne James, 33, was charged with involuntary manslaughter, failing to yield to pedestrians, and related counts in connection to the Jan. 18 incident. The incident occurred near the school's campus, at around 12:15 p.m. that day. >>Chester County Woman, 20, Killed In Bus Accident Barbara Como, 20, was walking near De Soto Street and Fifth Avenue when she was struck by a Port Authority of Pittsburgh bus, according to an incident report from the Pittsburgh Police Department issued in the wake of her death. Police said Como had the walk sign and the right of way when she was hit. She was transported to Presbyterian Hospital in serious condition, and died shortly thereafter. A native of Chester Springs and graduate of Downingtown High School, Como was set to graduate in 2020 after just three years of study. She was also working as a research assistant with the school's Learning Research and Development Center. A preliminary hearing for James is forthcoming.
