CHICAGO RIDGE, IL — New details have been released about a crash early Friday morning on the Chicago Ridge that killed a 22-year-old Chicago man and seriously injured another man. Alonte D. London was pronounced dead at the scene when he was thrown from his vehicle, Illinois State Police said.
A state trooper pulled over a vehicle on Interstate 57 near Vollmer Road around 12:30 a.m. The driver, later identified as London, fled the scene and the trooper terminated the traffic stop, ISP said in a statement.
About 20 minutes later, state police were notified by Chicago Ridge police that the offending vehicle had crashed at the intersection of 95th Street and Ridgeland Avenue. The vehicle had been apparently speeding east on 95th Street when it rolled through a red light and crashed into the other vehicle that was heading south on Ridgeland, police said.
London was ejected upon impact landing in a parking lot on the southeast corner of the interaction, according to Illinois State Police, which is handling the investigation. The second driver, also the sole occupant of his vehicle, was taken to the hospital with serious injuries.
ISP's Division of Internal Investigation is conducting the investigation.
