Description
PHILADELPHIA — Attempted murder and related charges have been filed in connection with an incident in which a man is accused of firing a shot at a Philadelphia Police officer.
District Attorney Larry Krasner Wednesday announced attempted murder and related charges against Devon Smith, 19.
The incident occurred at 10:40 p.m. Tuesday on the 1200 block of South 56th Street.
Two officers were called to the area for a report of a domestic incident, the DA's office said.
The officers saw Smith there and said he had both hands in his pockets, and to have indicated that he had a gun in one pocket, the DA's office said.
According to the DA's office, as one officer approached and attempted to apprehend Smith, Smith is alleged to have fired a gunshot, missing the officer but causing gunpowder burns to his face, for which he was later treated.
The other officer disarmed Smith, who was arrested without further incident, the DA's office said.
The DA's office is requesting Smith be detained pre-trial, and due to the cash bail system of the Commonwealth will be recommending to the bail magistrate on duty that Smith be held on $2 million.
