BRIDGEVIEW, IL — A judge who presides at the Cook County Fifth Municipal District Courthouse in Bridgeview has tested positive for COVID-19 and an adult probation officer have tested positive for COVID-19, according to a news release.
Two employees who work for the Adult Probation Office, one in the Bridgeview Courthouse and the other in Skokie, have tested positive. Also, two employees with the Juvenile Temporary Detention Center tested positive for the virus, along with four juvenile residents. This brings the total number of positive cases at the detention center to 68 staff members and 53 residents since the start of the pandemic.
Human Resources staff contacts any individuals identified as having close contact with infected persons at the workplace who may have been potentially exposed to the virus. Courtrooms and facilities are deep-cleaned following notice of a COVID-19 case in the workplace.
Since the beginning of the pandemic, 155 employees working under the Office of the Chief Judge have tested positive for COVID-19, in addition to nine judges. This is out of a total of about 2,600 non-judicial employees and approximately 400 judges.
The statement from Chief Judge Timothy Evans' office did not give any information about the Bridgeview judge's conditions or when he or she was last on the bench. In May, two judges tested positive for COVID-19 at the Bridgeview Courthouse. Since April, hearings have been held virtually at Cook County Courthouses to prevent the spread of coronavirus.
