A rare chance to tour 87 Mount Vernon St, a Federal-style residence on Beacon Hill, & today the headquarters of the Colonial Society
Join us for a rare opportunity to tour 87 Mount Vernon Street, a Federal-style residence on Beacon Hill, and today the headquarters of the Colonial Society of Massachusetts. Designed by noted Boston architect Charles Bulfinch and built in 1806, it is one of the earliest of the grand houses that defined the north side of Mount Vernon Street (then called Olive Street). The house is furnished with furniture and artwork from notable Boston families, including the descendants of William Ellery Channing, Francis Parkman, Jr., and William Crowninshield Endicott. The collection includes fine examples of classical Boston furniture, made in the workshops of Isaac Vose and John Doggett, among others.
Things to Note: In addition, we have a $1 donation to the Pursuit of History when you register for this tour.
