Dry Boat Helper/Operator and General Yard Assistant

La Conner Maritime Service is looking for a friendly candidate to work with our existing Dry Boat and Haul Out crew. Work is fast paced during spring and summer months, and requires repeated lifting and moving of blocking and boat stands. Work is performed outside in all types of weather. Safe work practices must be observed and all safety standards and policies followed. Environmental cleanliness standards and procedures must also be obeyed. This position involves greeting and interacting with customers in a friendly professional manner. Duties will include: • Greeting and assisting customers with their boats. • Work with crew of other departments to coordinate vessel moving and machinery operation. • Staging boat blocking for hauling and launching of boats. • Safely operate forklift; marine lifts, boat hoists, air bunk trailers, boom crane and yard trucks. • Direct and signal other operators to insure safe vessel and equipment movement. • Pressure wash vessels. • General yard cleanup. • Insure personal and customer compliance with established yard environmental cleanliness procedures. • Follow established boat moving schedule and adapt to changes as necessary. • Run errands in company vehicles as directed. • Perform other work as directed by Yard Manager. Required skills: • Ability to interact with customers in a professional and friendly manner. • Understand safe lifting techniques. • Familiarity with mechanical systems, operation and maintenance. • Strong knowledge, understanding and ability to use hand tools safely and properly. • Background in boats or marine operations helpful. • Valid Washington State Drivers Licenses. • Basic understanding of crane lifting operations. • Being dependable and punctual is a must. • Work schedule is 8am-5pm, 5 days a week Friday thru Tuesday. Working weekends and holidays is required. • Position is seasonal but could lead to full time.
