Celebrate Holi on the Hudson (Riverside Park on the Upper West Side) by flying kites. EVENT POSTPONED FROM MAR 19 - APR 2 Holi is a Hindu festival of spring in India and is celebrated by people of all nationalities, backgrounds, and religions. It is celebrated by throwing colors on each other to create equality and erase differences. In our event, we will be throwing colors in the sky with our kites. Kite flying has always been central to Indian culture and is regarded as an active recreational sport in India. While entrance to the venue is free, the ticket price is for one kite and an art activity kit per registrant. The kites are authentic paper kites imported from Indian. To add more to the festivities come dressed in casual Indian clothes. The event is open to both adults and kids. Please note: Use of holi colors and plastic kites will be prohibited in the venue. Akṣarā is an artistic program whose mission is to bring to the forefront traditional and contemporary ideas and thoughts about Indian culture in creative and meaningful ways.
