A reading of a new play about Hollywood's queer stunt world. Rogue Artists Ensemble’s new play-in-progress HAPPY FALL: A Queer Stunt Spectacular written by Lisa Sanaye Dring with Rogue Artists Ensemble and directed by Sean Cawelti, will have its first public reading at Culver City’s Veterans Memorial Building Friday, March 25 at 7:30pm and Saturday, March 26 at 11am, with a special free stunt workshop with stunt coordinator Celina Surniak after the Saturday performance at 2pm. HAPPY FALL: A Queer Stunt Spectacular is an original highly immersive theatrical experience about a queer closeted stuntman’s journey to discover himself in a world of faux masculinity, unmasking the importance and danger of being true to oneself. HAPPY FALL is based on true-life stories and direct testimonies, and illuminates issues of racial and cultural identity in Hollywood. The full production, set for a premiere in 2024, will come to life as an interactive stunt show, with life-size puppets, special effects and death-defying physical acts. This reading will feature puppetry, stunt demonstrations, and talkbacks with the artists. This reading will be the first public sharing of this work and each performance will be followed by a talkback giving YOU the opportunity to be a part of the development process. HAPPY FALL: A Queer Stunt Spectacular will have its premiere in 2024. HAPPY FALL is made possible in part by the City of Culver City and its Cultural Affairs Commission, with support from Sony Pictures Entertainment and the Culver City Arts Foundation. DETAILSThe reading contains some mature themes and is not recommended for children. The stunt workshop is free but requires an RSVP, and accessible for teenagers and adults. COVID-19 SAFETY: Rogue Artists Ensemble requires all patrons to wear masks inside the venue and at the outside stunt workshop. All audience members must provide proof of full vaccination along with a government or education issued photo ID upon arrival.
