The author and UM professor of environmental writing will discuss modern practitioners of radical simplicity who forge their lives beyond the reach of industrial capitalism. Based on his books The Unsettlers and The Man Who Quit Money, and tracing the movement’s lineage from abolitionist Quakers to Gandhi to Malcolm X, Sundeen dares us to imagine a world no longer dependent on Big Ag, fossil fuels, electricity, cars, even money itself. Meet our speaker: Mark Sundeen is the author of four books that have been widely translated. A contributing editor for Outside Magazine, his work has appeared in the New York Times Magazine, National Geographic Adventure, The Believer, and Best American Essays. He is an assistant professor of environmental studies at the University of Montana.
