OAK CREEK, WI — A bomb threat was called in from out of state against the Ninth Grade Center at the Oak Creek High School campus Wednesday morning, causing an evacuation of 9th grade and Empower students to the adjacent National Guard Armory, according to an announcement from the Oak Creek-Franklin School District.
Students began to return to classes around 11:15 a.m. after the Oak Creek Police Department, Milwaukee police and the Sheriff's Office searched the building and found it was safe, the district said.
Police were notified of the threat around 9:45 a.m., the district said. Police said they recieved a call claiming a backpack with a bomb inside was left in the 9th Grade Center.
The department said no suspicious devices or people were found in the school during their search. Police said the investigation is continuing.
The district said the 10-12 building and Edgewood Elementary were put on administrative hold during the evacuation. The district called the threat false.
The Ninth Grade Center is located at 8640 South Howell Avenue.
"We are committed to always taking the most expedient and appropriate steps in cooperation with the Oak Creek Police Department to ensure student safety," the district said in an announcement. "Our students and faculty responded extraordinarily under these stressful circumstances."
Police said in the news release there is no credible threat that remains.
