NORTHBROOK, IL — Citing a number of factors, the owners of the Five Seasons Family Sports Club are closing the health and fitness club's Northbrook location at the end of September. The decision to close Sept. 30 comes following a year filled with "significant personnel and operational changes," according to a press release from the club. "It's never easy to close a location that has been in operations for years. Closing our Northbrook, IL location was not an easy decision to make, especially because of the wonderful team that works there," said Heather Harris, chief operating officer of Five Seasons Sports Clubs, LLC., in a statement. Harris said some challenges the club faced are specific to the Northbrook location, including "disproportionately high" Cook County property taxes, tax breaks provided to new competitive businesses, and a declining member base forced the "tough financial decision to close." Locations in Burr Ridge, Cincinnati and Dayton, Ohio, and Crestview Hills, Kentucky will continue to expand their club offerings strategically, according to the release. The club said that Northbrook members are welcome to transfer their membership to the Burr Ridge location, located approximately 40 minutes away. "Five Seasons Sports Clubs appreciates the association the club has had with the Northbrook community," the released reads. "We also want to express our gratitude and support for all the front line workers, emergency responders, farmers, grocery store workers, transportation and production companies, water, waste, sewer, and power agencies, and other essential service providers that continue to keep our cities, states, and country moving forward in a positive direction."
