LINDENHURST, NY — The Village of Lindenhurst is showing its support for Ukraine. After the raising of the Ukrainian flag at Village Hall on Friday, the Kiwanis Club of Lindenhurst presented a $1,000 donation to Holy Family Ukrainian Catholic Church to support their Ukraine refugee relief efforts. "Our hearts go out to the people of the Ukraine, and we will continue to stand with them during this terrible time," said Trustee RJ Renna."Let us all pray for peace, and the end of the violence in the Ukraine." Mayor Michael Lavorata, along with town officials and community groups, raised the Ukrainian flag last week, to show solidarity with the citizens of Ukraine who have been under Russian attack since Feb. 24. The Ukrainian flag was raised at Village Hall on Friday. (Village of Lindenhurst)"The raising of this flag is symbolic of our love, support, and hope for all those who are suffering today in the Ukraine, especially the over 1 million refugees," said Mayor Michael Lavorata. Lindenhurst is home to a large Ukrainian-American community, and many residents are closely tied to those in the war-torn country. Since Russia's attacks began, the Holy Family Ukrainian Catholic Church has taken action in supporting Ukrainians, such as collecting items and monetary donations, to send overseas.
